Miami Dade County LogoThe Miami-Dade County ordinance requires that certain commercial buildings, condominiums and rental apartments must be inspected and recertified by a licensed professional engineer (or architect) when a building reaches 40 years old and at 10 year intervals thereafter.  This ordinance does not apply to single-family and duplex residences or to minor buildings less than 2,000 square feet and an occupancy of less than 10 persons (as defined by the Florida Building Code.)  Failure to obtain recertification will result in loss of the certificate of occupancy for the building.  Minimum structural and electrical  standards are established by the County. A notice will be mailed out  requiring recertification.
